Grand Opening (November 1st)

On November 1st, all the different parts of the Trojan Shelter family were able to come together for our Grand Opening last Friday. We are eternally grateful for being able to see our donors, advocates, friends, volunteers, and community partners come together and see the larger picture of what it takes to make Trojan Shelter possible. It certainly has taken a village to make our mission a reality, and we were so glad to celebrate all we were able to accomplish thus far.

Training Weekend (October 25-26)

Director of Staff Hannah Mulroe organized an intensive training to prepare our volunteers for being shelter staff and keeping our residents safe. The training included getting a California food-handler license in addition to mediation, conflict management, mental health, and regular Trojan Shelter operations training. The two intensive day training was indeed long, but now our volunteers are more than equipt to take care of our residents and successfully complete an overnight shift.

Cleaning Day (October 5th)

On October 5th, we sent a group of twenty volunteers to our space for the very first time to start the cleaning process. There was no doubt that there was a lot to do, but our volunteers were more than ready to meet the challenge. We did everything from vacuuming, mopping floors, moving furniture, organizing items, and throwing out unneeded items. Though there was a lot to do, the morning went by fast because of the hard work of a combined force of twenty volunteers.
