Volunteer of the Week: Pilar Luiz

My name’s Pilar and I am a freshman studying CS at USC. Back home in San Jose, I worked as a summer camp counselor for children struggling with homelessness and went on to start up a non-profit organization dedicated to providing economically disadvantaged patients with clothing after they were discharged. I am thrilled to be starting a new journey with Trojan Shelter in the combat against homelessness and pursuit of equal housing opportunity, specifically for college students.

During my shift last Thursday, a new resident moved his bags in from the car he was living in and found a new home with the rest of the residents and with Trojan Shetler. His warm presence and humor filled us with laughter as we enjoyed dinner and each other’s company. I am so proud to be part of an organization that gives back to those around us, enabling people to have not just a house, but also a place to call home.
